"Won't they hurt 'em?" asked Nat, who lay laughing with all his might.

"Oh dear, no! We always allow one pillow-fight Saturday night. The cases are changed to-morrow; and it gets up a glow after the boys' baths; so I rather like it myself," said Mrs. Bhaer, busy again among her dozen pairs of socks.

"What a very nice school this is!" observed Nat, in a burst of admiration.

"It's an odd one," laughed Mrs. Bhaer, "but you see we don't believe in making children miserable by too many rules, and too much study. I forbade night-gown parties at first; but, bless you, it was of no use. I could no more keep those boys in their beds than so many jacks in the box. So I made an agreement with them: I was to allow a fifteen-minute pillow-fight every Saturday night; and they promised to go properly to bed every other night. I tried it, and it worked well. If they don't keep their word, no frolic; if they do, I just turn the glasses round, put the lamps in safe places, and let them rampage as much as they like."

Pollyanna Episode 37 released!

"I am a-thinkin'," choked Jamie. "Don't you suppose I know what I'm doin'—what I'm givin' up?" Then to Mrs. Carew he turned tear-wet eyes. "I can't," he faltered. "I can't let you do all that for me. If you—CARED it would be different. But you don't care—not really. You don't WANT me—not ME. You want the real Jamie, and I ain't the real Jamie. You don't think I am. I can see it in your face."

"I know. But—but—" began Mrs. Carew, helplessly.

"And it isn't as if—as if I was like other boys, and could walk, either," interrupted the cripple, feverishly. "You'd get tired of me in no time. And I'd see it comin'. I couldn't stand it—to be a burden like that. Of course, if you CARED—like mumsey here—" He threw out his hand, choked back a sob, then turned his head away again. "I'm not the Jamie you want. I—can't—go," he said. With the words his thin, boyish hand fell clenched till the knuckles showed white against the tattered old shawl that covered the bed.

A little update

I figure it would be appropriate to give everyone an update on what has been happening and what we are planning.

Pollyanna

As everyone knows, we're almost 3/4ths the way through the series.  We are going to try to get it finished by the end of October.  The one thing that is hindering our progress at the moment is that the Boston arc is not exactly the easiest material to deal with.

Episodes 37-43 are especially difficult to deal with due to the content.  After we clear those episodes, it should be smooth sailing to the end.  If you haven't read the novel, the ending might surprise you!

Happy Kappi

Currently, we do not know how many episodes Happy Kappi is expected to have.  If it ends at episode 24 or 26, then we will either take on a Fall 2011 series, put the resources back into working on Pollyanna, or potentially starting something new. If it is a series like Hamtaro where there are literally hundreds of episodes, then we will continue as long as we can still obtain raws.  We've also recently been able to get transport streams again as well for this series.

Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure

We currently have 26 out of the 39 episodes translated, at a one episode per week rate.  Due to scheduling conflicts, the Wasurenai staffers that are responsible for their parts were unable to make as much progress as anticipated.  This is not their fault; one must remember that real life takes priority over any fansubbing.

I've been getting master encoding raws ready for each episode.  Once the episodes are ready for encode, it takes almost no time to get the episodes encoded and ready for distribution.

Little Women II

Everything is going well with our work for the series.  The translator has done an incredible job so far, and we hope to continue our weekly release schedule for this series.

What happens after Pollyanna?

We will start another World Masterpiece Theater project after Pollyanna.  However, we will do this a bit differently this time around.

Instead of unilaterally deciding ourselves which series we will do, we will instead sub the first episodes of the series we are considering.  We will then have a poll up, and you will vote on which series we will do next.

We have decided on three series that we would like to do.  We will not reveal them at this time, but they will be revealed when we get the first episodes up and the poll comes up.

Some little things

I would like to personally thank everyone for your support.  We've just had our first birthday, and we've come a long way from our beginnings.  We hope to continue serving everyone for years to come.

Little Women II - Jo's Boys Episode 9 released!

It takes so little to make a child happy that it is a pity, in a world so full of sunshine and pleasant things, that there should be any wistful faces, empty hands, or lonely little hearts. Feeling this, the Bhaers gathered up all the crumbs they could find to feed their flock of hungry sparrows, for they were not rich, except in charity. Many of Mrs. Jo's friends who had nurseries sent her they toys of which their children so soon tired, and in mending these Nat found an employment that just suited him. He was very neat and skillful with those slender fingers of his, and passed many a rainy afternoon with his gum-bottle, paint-box, and knife, repairing furniture, animals, and games, while Daisy was dressmaker to the dilapidated dolls. As fast as the toys were mended, they were put carefully away in a certain drawer which was to furnish forth a Christmas-tree for all the poor children of the neighborhood, that being the way the Plumfield boys celebrated the birthday of Him who loved the poor and blessed the little ones.

Pollyanna Episode 36 released!

"Oh, but what an awful, awful place that was! I just wish the man that owned it had to live in it himself—and then see what he'd have to be glad for!"

Mrs. Carew sat suddenly erect. Her face showed a curious change. Almost as if in appeal she flung out her hand toward Pollyanna.

"Don't!" she cried. "Perhaps—she didn't know, Pollyanna. Perhaps she didn't know. I'm sure she didn't know—she owned a place like that. But it will be fixed now—it will be fixed."

"SHE! Is it a woman that owns it, and do you know her? And do you know the agent, too?"

"Yes." Mrs. Carew bit her lips. "I know her, and I know the agent."

"Oh, I'm so glad," sighed Pollyanna. "Then it'll be all right now."

"Well, it certainly will be—better," avowed Mrs. Carew with emphasis, as the car stopped before her own door.

Mrs. Carew spoke as if she knew what she was talking about. And perhaps, indeed, she did—better than she cared to tell Pollyanna. Certainly, before she slept that night, a letter left her hands addressed to one Henry Dodge, summoning him to an immediate conference as to certain changes and repairs to be made at once in tenements she owned. There were, moreover, several scathing sentences concerning "rag-stuffed windows," and "rickety stairways," that caused this same Henry Dodge to scowl angrily, and to say a sharp word behind his teeth—though at the same time he paled with something very like fear.

Pollyanna Episode 35 released!

As it chanced, not two days later, Mrs. Carew heard something more of Pollyanna and trolley cars—this time from Mary.

"I mean, it's queer, ma'am," explained Mary earnestly, in answer to a question her mistress had asked, "it's queer how Miss Pollyanna just gets 'round EVERYBODY—and without half trying. It isn't that she DOES anything. She doesn't. She just—just looks glad, I guess, that's all. But I've seen her get into a trolley car that was full of cross-looking men and women, and whimpering children, and in five minutes you wouldn't know the place. The men and women have stopped scowling, and the children have forgot what they're cryin' for.

"Sometimes it's just somethin' that Miss Pollyanna has said to me, and they've heard it. Sometimes it's just the 'Thank you,' she gives when somebody insists on givin' us their seat—and they're always doin' that—givin' us seats, I mean. And sometimes it's the way she smiles at a baby or a dog. All dogs everywhere wag their tails at her, anyway, and all babies, big and little, smile and reach out to her. If we get held up it's a joke, and if we take the wrong car, it's the funniest thing that ever happened. And that's the way 'tis about everythin'. One just can't stay grumpy, with Miss Pollyanna, even if you're only one of a trolley car full of folks that don't know her."

"Hm-m; very likely," murmured Mrs. Carew, turning away.

In this episode, Pollyanna explores the question whether "Young Lord James" in the park is Jamie.  She has to use one of the things which she doesn't like to do (in this case, lying) in order to pull this off without making Mrs. Carew suspicious.

Little Women II - Jo's Boys Episode 8 released!

There was a cupboard under the middle shelf, and on opening the door fresh delights appeared. One half was evidently the cellar, for wood, coal, and kindlings were piled there. The other half was full of little jars, boxes, and all sorts of droll contrivances for holding small quantities of flour, meal, sugar, salt, and other household stores. A pot of jam was there, a little tin box of gingerbread, a cologne bottle full of currant wine, and a tiny canister of tea. But the crowning charm was two doll's pans of new milk, with cream actually rising on it, and a wee skimmer all ready to skim it with. Daisy clasped her hands at this delicious spectacle, and wanted to skim it immediately. But Aunt Jo said:

"Not yet; you will want the cream to eat on your apple pie at dinner, and must not disturb it till then."

"Am I going to have pie?" cried Daisy, hardly believing that such bliss could be in store for her.

"Yes; if your oven does well we will have two pies, one apple and one strawberry," said Mrs. Jo, who was nearly as much interested in the new play as Daisy herself.

In this episode, Jo comes up with something that both Daisy and Nan could play together.  Of course, knowing that this is Plumfield, it's something that old Aunt Marsh probably wouldn't have approved of...

Pollyanna Episode 34 released!

"I love Sundays," she sighed happily.

"Do you?" Mrs. Carew's voice had the weariness of one who loves no day.

"Yes, on account of church, you know, and Sunday school. Which do you like best, church, or Sunday school?"

"Well, really, I—" began Mrs. Carew, who seldom went to church and never went to Sunday school.

"'Tis hard to tell, isn't it?" interposed Pollyanna, with luminous but serious eyes. "But you see I like church best, on account of father. You know he was a minister, and of course he's really up in Heaven with mother and the rest of us, but I try to imagine him down here, lots of times; and it's easiest in church, when the minister is talking. I shut my eyes and imagine it's father up there; and it helps lots. I'm so glad we can imagine things, aren't you?"

"I'm not so sure of that, Pollyanna."

"Oh, but just think how much nicer our IMAGINED things are than our really truly ones—that is, of course, yours aren't, because your REAL ones are so nice." Mrs. Carew angrily started to speak, but Pollyanna was hurrying on. "And of course MY real ones are ever so much nicer than they used to be. But all that time I was hurt, when my legs didn't go, I just had to keep imagining all the time, just as hard as I could. And of course now there are lots of times when I do it—like about father, and all that. And so to-day I'm just going to imagine it's father up there in the pulpit. What time do we go?"

In this episode, Pollyanna and Mrs. Carew go to church.  What happens after church sets up the plot for the last 10 episodes, as Pollyanna finds out about Mrs. Carew's nephew, Jamie.

Fall 2011 anime season

I personally admit that there is only one series in the entire list of series airing in the Fall 2011 season that would actually fit the criteria of a series that is suitable for Licca Fansubs to work on.  We will not mention this series, but we are definitely considering subbing that series.

However, this is dependent on several conditions, all of which will need to be satisfied:

1.  The series must not be licensed.
2.  The series must not be simulcast by Crunchyroll, Funimation, Niconico, or any other authorized anime distributor in the United States.
3.  We will need someone capable of capping transport streams of the series in question.
4.  Happy Kappi will need to end right on or before the start of this series.

As for the fulfillment of condition #4, a quick look at the airing schedule indicates that episode 21 of Happy Kappi will be airing on September 7th, 2011.  If Happy Kappi stops at 24 episodes, then that should put us right at the beginning of the Fall 2011 season.  If Happy Kappi does not stop there, then we will continue with Happy Kappi and forgo the Fall 2011 season.

This episode is a continuation of the previous episode.  Apparently in this camping area there is a Kappimeshian treasure buried here... and Whippi and Kobara are trying to find it when they run into Suguri, Kappi, and Dokuroppi.

(Birthday Celebration) Pollyanna Episode 33 released!

On and on Pollyanna talked. Pollyanna was in her element now. Pollyanna loved to talk. That there was anything strange or unwise or even unconventional in this intimate telling of her thoughts and her history to a total stranger on a Boston park bench did not once occur to Pollyanna. To Pollyanna all men, women, and children were friends, either known or unknown; and thus far she had found the unknown quite as delightful as the known, for with them there was always the excitement of mystery and adventure—while they were changing from the unknown to the known.

(Birthday Celebration) Little Women II - Jo's Boys Episode 7 released!

When Nat went into school on Monday morning, he quaked inwardly, for now he thought he should have to display his ignorance before them all. But Mr. Bhaer gave him a seat in the deep window, where he could turn his back on the others, and Franz heard him say his lessons there, so no one could hear his blunders or see how he blotted his copybook. He was truly grateful for this, and toiled away so diligently that Mr. Bhaer said, smiling, when he saw his hot face and inky fingers:

"Don't work so hard, my boy; you will tire yourself out, and there is time enough."

"But I must work hard, or I can't catch up with the others. They know heaps, and I don't know anything," said Nat, who had been reduced to a state of despair by hearing the boys recite their grammar, history, and geography with what he thought amazing ease and accuracy.

"You know a good many things which they don't," said Mr. Bhaer, sitting down beside him, while Franz led a class of small students through the intricacies of the multiplication table.

"Do I?" and Nat looked utterly incredulous.

"Yes; for one thing, you can keep your temper, and Jack, who is quick at numbers, cannot; that is an excellent lesson, and I think you have learned it well. Then, you can play the violin, and not one of the lads can, though they want to do it very much. But, best of all, Nat, you really care to learn something, and that is half the battle. It seems hard at first, and you will feel discouraged, but plod away, and things will get easier and easier as you go on."

In this episode, every one finds a way to help Nat out with what they knew best.  However, ultimately Nat has to be the one to be willing to accept the help and to do the work to learn everything he is taught. With the help of all his friends in Plumfield, he exceeds everyone's expectations.
