Porphy no Nagai Tabi Episode 52 released!

This last picture here says more than I can say in several sentences.

As per my usual practice, I would like to make some concluding remarks.

This series has probably been one of the most unique series this group has worked on.  After working on it, I can understand why this series was one of the most demanded series in terms of requests.  We've enjoyed working on this series a lot, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we did.

The list of folks that have worked on this series and helped out in little ways is simply too numerous to list.  I would like to thank everyone for their help and support, as this series required special attention due to the unique material.  I would like to thank some of my friends for providing me with technical information and cultural information; I would have never been able to translate this series without their help.

We will be releasing a batch torrent of all the episodes sometime next week.  I do have to make a few version 2 encodes (and a version 3 for one episode) to address some typos.

  3. and now the last episode is out too.
thanks so much that you guys picked this serie up and finished it. ^^

    it was a nice anime.
first, i thought the journey would be different (that mina and porphy would travel together) but that was not going this way. however that didn´t matter. the story and their adventures were also good.

    1. In the novel, Mina and Porphy did travel together for a short while, but they still got separated anyway. The anime basically put them through a different route through Europe, but the ending is essentially the same: they find each other in Paris.

    1. Yes. Basically My Annette will take the slot occupied by Porphy, while Lucy-May of the Southern Rainbow will take the slot occupied by My Annette.

  10. I think Licca did say My annette will take Porphys priority, and Lucy is coming now.

For the future hope you do WMT:Little Prince Ceddie Licca among the other WMT series that still need subbing, that would be super awesome.

    1. Well, it's going to be fun no matter what we end up doing next. Hopefully before too long, other groups will be taking up those series as well and making a name for themselves.

    2. Silver Zero are doing three (Anne, Heidi and Flanders) and Takara are doing two (Romeo and Remi) so at least it isn't falling all on your shoulders. C1 also completed Daddy Long Legs and Peter Pan, while Live-Evil completed Trapp Family. Shame Katri got stuck, though.

    3. According to AniDB, Live-Evil's Trapp Family is stalled, is that not the case? Anyway I can't find it subbed in Bakabt or Nyaa.

  16. Finally saw episode 52 this morning! I'm so glad I got to watch this show, and I have you to thank, Licca Subs!

  17. Thanks for the great subbing of this Licca Fansubs. Can't say its that great of a series but its good for a one-time viewing imo. My only complain is that ending. I'm glad its a happy ending and all (would have been pissed if it wasn't lol) but couldn't they've stretched the reunion? I mean 40+ eps (right?) of separation then one scene of reunion... Is that how exactly it ended in the novel?

    1. The anime deviates from the novel starting right around the earthquake.

In the novel, Porphy and Mina don't get separated until they started out on their journey. They take a completely different route through Europe.

As for the ending, the only thing that the anime keeps with the novel is that the reunion happens in Paris, and that happens in the last chapter in the novel.

There is only one other thing that the anime actually kept from the novel after the earthquake. The parts involving the Greek restaurant were also in the novel.

    2. Ah i thought it was a close adaptation. Tnx for the explanation.

    3. Btw did you find the novel a good read? I read some of the novels WMT series were based on and with the exception of the Maria von Trapp book they were very good reads.

Unfortunately later WMT series would change the story and characters to a considerable extent. Eg I didnt like how the novel The Bush Babies was changed in the anime. Despite the series having some good moments for an adventure, the novel characters change completely, closer resembling anime stereotypes. Story remains mostly faithfull though.

Same occured with Lassie, Remi and the Black Brothers, there unfortunately story deviates completely from the novel.

Do you think the series does the novel justice? Only Rascal the Raccoon managed to enrich the novel, despite deviating a lot.

    4. I think the series did do the novel justice. Yes, they made significant changes between the anime and the novel, more than any other WMT series that I know. However, it did capture what happened in Greece, and the general aspect of Porphy and Mina traveling quite well.

    5. I think the most deviating story in any WMT title must be Katri. Only the name of the lead character is kept. In the novel she also has a sister. Also the autobiographical novel was written with adult readers in mind, so some scenes were omitted. Havent read it though. Finnish readers found it boring and they wondered how one could adapt into animation such a boring story. Also the author's relatives did not give consent for the adaptation of the novel

I'd like to read the Simitra orphans novel too if I can find it, even if it was written by a foreigner (we have enough of our own stories here).

But probably the best similar youth novels I read were from the author and spouse of the Black Brothers novel (Liza Tetzner and Kurt Held). The Red Zora, Giusepe and Maria and probably the best and biggest, spanning over 5 volumes, The Kids from Number 67. Descriped as a children's Odyssey.

Without the WMT series Romeo and The Black Brothers, I wouldnt have been introduced to such works. I am eternally grateful! Though I havent read a book for over 1,5 year I have the fondest memories of those works.

    1. I actually had the first DVD volume of Porphy imported to check if I could use it as a raw. It was, unfortunately, the worst R2 DVD that I've ever seen, in terms of mastering quality.
