Perrine Episode 46 released!

After she had left the house over which Death had spread its shroud, she was surprised to notice as she hastened through the village that the taverns had taken on their Sunday air. The men drank and laughed and the women chatted at their doors, while the children played in the street. Perrine wondered if none of them were going to attend the service.

Upon entering the church, where she had been afraid that she would not find room, she saw that it was almost empty. The bereaved family sat in the choir; here and there was some village authority, a tradesman and the heads of the factories. Very few of the working men and women were present; they had not thought to come and join their prayers to those of their employer.

Perrine took a seat beside Rosalie and her grandmother, who was in deep mourning.

"Alas! my poor little Edmond," murmured the old nurse, wiping her eyes. "What did M. Vulfran say?"

But Perrine was too overcome to reply. The services commenced.

Perrine Episode 45 released!

"Certainly, Madame, I understand; at least I think so," said Perrine.

"Then we can count on you?"

Perrine hesitated for a moment, but as she was forced to give a reply she said:

"I shall do all that I can for M. Vulfran."

"Yes, and what you do for him will be for us," continued Mme. Bretoneux, "the same as what you do for us will be for him. And I am going to show you that I am not ungrateful. What would you say if I gave you a very nice dress?"

Perrine did not want to say anything, but as she had to make some reply to the question she put it into a smile.

"A very beautiful dress to wear in the evening," said Mme. Bretoneux.

In this episode, Madame Bretoneux tries to win Perrine's favor for her son.  However, Vulfran was about to get definitive news about his son.  It was a day that Perrine was dreading all this time.

Perrine Episode 44 released!

Although M. Vulfran had no wish to have his nephews living with him he was very hospitable and cordial to their parents when they came to visit him. On these occasions the beautiful mansion put on its most festive appearance; fires were lighted everywhere; the servants put on their best liveries; the best carriages and horses were brought from the stables, and in the evening the villagers could see the great chateau lighted up from ground floor to roof.

Perrine Episode 43 released!

In this episode, Perrine reveals her true identity to Fabry. However, in response to Fabry's question about why she hasn't told Vulfran, she had two reasons.  The more important reason of the two reasons was that if she admitted she was his granddaughter, she would have to tell him that her father had died.

Summer 2012 anime season

We are currently not planning to do any series from the Summer 2012 anime season.  The main reason is that we will not be able to finish Porphy in time to free up the translation slot for a series.

Therefore, when we finish Porphy, we will move My Annette to the slot that Porphy occupied, and Lucy-May of the Southern Rainbow to the slot that My Annette occupied.  We are anticipating to finish up with Porphy by the second week of July.

In this episode, Porphy ends up finding employment in a Greek restaurant in Paris.  However, the owner of the restaurant is a chauvinistic and miserly man that sides with his best customer, even though the customer was at fault when he tries to harass a woman.

Watching Les Miserables on stage

Several months ago, I put up a blog post asking about seating for watching Les Miserables on stage.  I finally got to see it a couple of weeks ago.

I ended up getting orchestra level seats for the show, and I felt it was well worth the cost.  The entire experience was so wonderful, it was almost surreal, and almost indescribable by words.  It was so enjoyable that I'll probably buy tickets the next time the show comes into town.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on what seats to get.  It made my first experience with watching Les Miserables on stage a wonderful one.

In other news, Porphy episodes 45 and 46 are about to go through pre-encode checks, and I'm translating Porphy 47 right now.  Little Women II episode 25 is at timing, and we'll have a couple of Perrine episodes ready for encoding soon as well.

This episode is one of my personal favorites.  Porphy is trying to walk to Paris, all while not being adequately dressed in snowy weather.  He ends up collapsing on the ground.

My Annette Episode 12 released!

In this episode, the children in the village find a way to deal with unethical hunters in the forest around the village.  Lucien gets into a bit of trouble before an old hermit shows up.  This old hermit will play a pivotal role in the rest of the series.

This marks the 1/4th mark of the series.  You may have noticed that the story at this point seems to be a bit too idyllic.  That is all about to change in a few episodes.

At first he did not understand, then in a voice that was strangely sympathetic he said:

Perrine Episode 41 released!

As she crossed the veranda she saw Talouel, who, with his hands thrust in his pockets, was strolling about as though on the lookout for all that passed in the yards as well as in the offices.

"Where are you going?" he demanded.

"To the cable office with a message," replied Perrine. She held the paper in one hand and the money in the other. He took the paper from her, snatching it so roughly that if she had not let it go he would have torn it. He hastily opened it. His face flushed with anger when he saw that the message was written in English.

"You know that you've got to talk with me later on, eh?" he said.

"Yes, sir."

In this episode, Vulfran asks Perrine to send a telegram to India.  On her way to the telegram office, Talouel accosts her in an alleyway, throws her to the ground, then rummages through her purse. Talouel finds the text of the telegram, but it was in English, which he could not read.

Vulfran finds out about what happened, and decided to take Perrine to live with him to prevent further incidents.

My Annette Episode 11 released!

Back to bed ran Dani with a light heart. He cuddled down under the clothes, curled himself into a ball, and buried his nose in the pillows. He had already said his prayer with Annette before he got into bed, but now he had a little bit to add.

"Please, dear God," he whispered, "make Father Christmas and his reindeer come this way; and make him see my red slipper, and make him put a little present inside even if I am only a poor little boy."

In this episode, Dani puts his slipper outside in the hopes that Santa Claus will drop a present inside.  It turned out that Santa Claus did put a present inside.

Porphy no Nagai Tabi Episode 39 released!

In this episode, Porphy is walking towards the French border.  On the way, he meets an enigmatic young woman just standing around on the side of the road.

This episode marks the 3/4 point of the series.  We're about to hit the homestretch, and the end appears to be in sight for Porphy.  Most of the last episodes will take place in France; in fact, Porphy will be making the border crossing in episode 40.  However, since this series does not end around episode 40, Porphy's troubles are far from over; he will have to go through a lot more pain and suffering before the series ends.
